Spectre’s
36’ racing Zip Express is an APBA Offshore World
Championship winner, two-time winner the Super Boat
International World Championships, and has set kilo
records sanctioned by each organization.
Design Philosophy
Available in race boat and Poker Run Edition configurations,
the 36 is one of boating’s most impressive thrill
rides.
The 36 Poker Run Edition runs on
the same bottom with twin-stepped sponsons and deep
wide tunnel as the Zip Express race boat. (The large
tunnel provides increased air compression, giving it
impressive performance capabilities, often exceeding
that of smaller boats running on the same power).
Dual crystal-clear F-16 quarter
canopies provide wind and spray protection for driver
and co-pilot.
The 36 is available as a poker-run
day boat without cabin, or offered in a cabin version
without canopies.
State-of the Art
Construction and Materials
Using identical construction techniques and materials,
both 36 race boat and Poker Run Edition boats boast
premium fit and finish. When you take a close look,
you’ll see that the 36 features unsurpassed race-quality
construction.
The 36 is constructed bi-axial and
tri-axial fiberglass, with high-tech vinylester resins
and Airlite core, with Kevlar employed at key areas
for added strength. The hand-laid vacuum bag process
ensures that the hull is light-weight without compromising
strength and durability, providing long-term integrity
in even the most punishing race conditions.
Race-Ready Rigging
and Hardware
From its aircraft-grade stainless steel hardware and
powder-coated handrail, quality is apparent throughout.
All attached hardware is through-bolted, and sturdy
backing plates and mounting plates embedded in the hull
and deck provide a solid connection point and ensure
long-term performance. All wiring is neatly race-mounted,
with evenly spaced stainless cushion clamps and tie-wraps.
The four-point Mercury Racing engine
mounts employ L-angles, through-bolted to the stringers.
Hardware includes Livorsi instrumentation
and throttles, full hydraulic race steering, Cole Hershee
switches, and hardware from Eddie Marine and Dana Marine.
From its Accon pop-up cleats, through-bolted
aluminum rubrail, and flush mounted fuel fills and vents,
all hardware has been carefully appointed for optimal
performance while carefully integrating into the overall
visual appeal of the 36.
Performance
Much of the success of the 36 on the race circuit is
due to its superior handling characteristics. As one
Powerboat Magazine tester put it, “This is one
of the best slaloming big cats I’ve ever driven.”
The full hydraulic steering system provides smooth and
uniform response to steering wheel input, and tracking
ability is excellent, as it is its ability to perform
in offshore conditions.
With its high-performance, composite
construction and efficient hull design, the 36 gets
a lot of range compared to its heavier counterparts.
With fuel capacity of 174 gallons from 2 aluminum tanks,
you will have adequate capacity for offshore cruising.
All Spectre boats are water tested
on fresh water Lake Tarpon, and fine-tuned for optimal
performance before they are prepared for delivery.
Features
Marine Machine controls mounted between the driver and
co-pilot buckets enables the cat to be used in either
single-operator or driver and throttleman applications.
Modified Pro-Stock-style Harwood
intake scoops give the 36 a racy look. Engines are mounted
slightly forward in the boat for balance, and are easily
accessible for service. Aluminum Eddie Marine battery
boxes are also mounted for easy access.
The 36 has high-back racing bucket
seats with carbon fiber backs for driver and co-pilot,
which are sturdily through-bolted to a subplate in the
cockpit liner. With space for four passengers on the
rear bench, the individually hinged rear seat bolsters
can be lifted for storage.
The 36 features gunwale inserts
with speakers for the high-end sound system and drink
holders, and side compartments for securely stowing
smaller items. Grab handles make welcome additions for
co-pilot and passengers at triple-digit speeds.
The fiberglass cockpit liner is
textured with a male non-skid surface pattern, and can
be fitted with snap-in marine grade carpet for superior
comfort.
